Rhinoplasty Information
Rhinoplasty is a term that is often heard in this day and age. But many people don’t really know what rhinoplasty is and what is involved in rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is basically a type of surgery where the goal is to alter the shape of the nose or the function of the nose. This can be done for cosmetic or medical reasons. Or if someone is experiencing an obstruction in their nasal passage they may want to undergo a rhinoplasty operation to help them breathe easier.

The first is open rhinoplasty surgery and the second is closed rhinoplasty surgery. Open rhinoplasty involves an incision between the nostrils, known as the columella. There are also incisions made on the inside of the nose. Open rhinoplasty allows for greater visibility and is often used in more complex cases. Closed rhinoplasty involves incisions only on the inside of the nose. There is usually much less swelling and bruising with closed rhinoplasty surgery, but depending on the changes to the nose that are being made this may not be a viable option. You should discuss all of your concerns with your doctor and he or she will explain which type of rhinoplasty surgery you will be undergoing and why the decision to go that route was made.
Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthetic. Once the rhinoplasty surgeon has finished the re-shaping of the nose, a splint is usually applied to help the nose keep its new shape. The splint is typically removed along with the stitches approximately one to two weeks after the rhinoplasty surgery. Nasal packs may also be used to help keep the septum properly in place. The septum is a piece of tissue that separates the two nasal passages. These nasal packs are usually removed a few days after the surgery. Your doctor will explain any follow up visits that you must make to his or her office and when you should make them.

There are other qualifications that each member must meet before they can be a member. This is a great way to weed out rhinoplasty surgeons that may provide sub-standard care.

If you don’t like the results that you are seeing, you should consider a different surgeon. You should be able to see a large variety so don’t be satisfied with just one or two pictures.
